Presidential campaign launched

THE African National Congress’ Mabhinki Branch successfully launched the Thuma Mina (Send Me) presidential campaign over the weekend.

The launch saw more than 40 ANC volunteers pledging to go house-to-house, door-to-door in order to remind voters about the forthcoming national and provincial government elections next year.

Branch chairperson Phumlani Mzobe said the campaign was aimed at cultivating the spirit of activism among members of the ANC in remembrance and celebration of the centenary since the birth of former president Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu, who would have both turned 100 this year.

“Our members will be embarking on a programme of reconnecting with the people, listening to their views and coming up with possible solutions to their problems,” said Mzobe.

He said social disconnect, that manifested itself through public protests, was a result of ANC dysfunctional structures which were not able to detect problems early as were not in touch with their followers.

“The branch will be hosting sport games now in June, various Mandela day initiatives in July, launch of young women desk in August, celebrating the fallen heroes in September and Year End Community Prayer in December,” said Mzobe.
