CONSIDERING the community’s water crisis, Port Shepstone Junior Primary School decided to raise awareness and compete in the Water Explorer challenge initiated by the Global Action Plan.

The programme focuses on empowering pupils worldwide to take action against the water issues communities and schools are faced with.

Participating pupils were taught about water saving methods including grey water — which is water collected after use, black water, the contaminated human water, and clean drinking water.

The three types of water were collected by pupils in two-litre cooldrink bottles and brought to school as part of their participation in the campaign.

“Well done to all the pupils and their parents for their support,” said Gale Simes from the school.

107 bottles of water were collected and pupils were then taught about how to save and correctly dispose the collected water without wasting it.
