THE Ray Nkonyeni councillors resolved to support a proposal by Margate Rates and Residents’ Association to partner with the municipality in dealing with infrastructure issues.

This partnership was welcomed by council.

The association has identified the Margate south beach walkway as the immediate project requiring priority attention because it has been vandalised and is in a prime tourist location.

Speaking at council, the municipal manager Maxwell Mbili commended the gesture by the association, hailing it as a step forward for co-operative governance and social responsibility initiatives.

“To this end they have taken it upon themselves to source the services of consultants to assess the damage and recommend remedial action,” said Mbili.

The partnership between the municipality and Margate Rates and Residents’ Association will explore other areas of co-operation in the future, but is likely to include road and verge maintenance as well as refuse removal.
