THE Ugu District Municipality hosted its first Mayoral Cup Games on Monday at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.

Athletes competed in various sports codes, including netball, soccer, karate, volleyball and chess.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality was the overall winner and also took the trophy for being the most organised municipality at the games.

Second position went to Umzumbe Municipality and third to Umuziwabantu Municipality while Umdoni Municipality holds the tail.

Muicipal mayor Cllr Mondli Chiliza expressed his appreciation to local mayors for responding to his call to participate in the games.

The games were used to select players who will represent Ugu at the annual provincial South African Local Government Association games.
