2016-04-07 06:00

IT seems the year has been shrouded in political scandal. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, the ruling party pleasantly surprises us. But of course, we can expect nothing less from our commander-in-chief, JZ, as he is affectionately known.

Blissful is the life of the ignorant after all. How many “normal” people really buy the excuse of bad legal advice? This president and his cronies simply do not represent the interests of ordinary South Africans. For how long are voters going to put their trust in a party that only serves a connected minority. Perhaps the conspiracy theory, that the masses are kept in a fire pool of abject poverty and mediocre education such that any hand-out seems like a godsend, may just be fact.

If the ruling party is serious about re-igniting the torch of freedom that it claims to carry, then it must relinquish narcissistic people who parade around like royalty under the guise of humble civil servants. The president is only the tip of the ice berg. The number of service delivery protests around the country show that when the ANC governs absolutely, decay follows. One can go on about health, education and the economy, but I think all the evidence has come to bear in the past 22 years. We cannot keep voting for a party that fails dismally.

Ordinary citizens have to unite and ensure that our Constitution is not trampled on any further. We have one more opportunity to register to vote on 9 and 10 April. The future of our country lies in the hands of voters.
