ENTRIES for the seventh annual Diageo SA Responsible Drinking Media Awards (RDMA) are now open.

Hosted annually, the RMDA recognise journalist and media entities that positively influence irresponsible alcohol usage.

“In the wake of the shocking December and Easter holiday road death statistics, Diageo SA is urging journalists more than ever to write content that gets South Africans thinking twice about the way they consume alcohol,” said managing director Jeff Milliken.

“The awards are open to South African journalists who write articles that relate to responsible drinking and the impact of alcohol abuse, including issues such as drink driving, underage drinking, foetal alcohol syndrome, binge drinking and alcohol-related violence,” said Miliken.

The six categories to enter into include Best Magazine, Best Newspaper, Best Online, Best Broadcast, Best Community Media and Best Up and Coming, with two overarching awards for Journalist of the Year and Media House of the Year.

The winner of each category will walk away with R15 000 and a public acknowledgment for their efforts to help combat alcohol abuse in South Africa.

Any material published between August 1, 2016 and July 31, 2017 on any media platform that aims to support this cause is eligible to enter the 2017 awards and win a prize. Entries close on July 30, 2017
