Robber, rapist sentenced

A 26-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to an effective 15 years behind bars at the Scottburgh Regional Court last week.

Senzo Banelo Ngcongo (26), robbed and raped an 18-year-old woman in Kenterton on the South Coast.

The complainant was walking to a bus stop when Ngcongo grabbed her and took her into a sugar-cane field. He took her cellphone and money and raped her before fleeing.

During the trial he pleaded not guilty and disputed the DNA evidence presented to the court by Regional Court Prosecutor Christelle Rossouw.

Rossouw led the evidence of the complainant and the first report.

Witnesses also testified that the DNA analysis undoubtedly linked the accused to the offence.

Court preparation officer Nthuthuko Ngobese facilitated the victim impact statement compiled by the complainant.

The accused was sentenced to 15 years’ for rape and 10 years’ for robbery. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently. - Supplied.
