THE Sapphire Coast representing KZN region was crowned South African Senior 8 Ball Pool champions last week, from April 29 to May 5, in Vereeniging, Gauteng beating 13 other provinces.

They were unbeaten in the round robin stages when they versed Western Gauteng in the semi-final and thereafter Eastern Gauteng in the thrilling final.

The spokesperson of Sapphire Coast, Terrence Chetty said that over 600 players from all over the country participated with most provinces trying for many years to win the prestigious title. However, Sapphire Coast did it in convincing style, just after being reinstated as a region only this year, after almost eight years in existence. “The top performers were Raja Naidoo who was the number one seed in the tournament,” said Chetty.

“All of our players performed with unity and great excellence in bringing home the title of SA Champions led by experience. As the captain, together with the manager Dale O’ Riley, not forgetting our president Julie Browns, the motivation and support kept the team united. We want to express our gratitude to all of our sponsors in cash and kind that helped get the team to the nationals in Gauteng. There were many that supported, especially our fund-raisers for finances.”

Any players wanting to join our 8 ball pool league or looking for free development and coaching can contact Chetty at 074 742 7894 or Ivan Naidoo at 083 584 8496. Chetty is situated at UBA Pool Lounge at Spillers Waterfront.
