SAPS warn about business impersonators

2016-02-25 06:00

SAPS has issued a warning to South Coast residents to be wary of people who claim to be conducting official work, but who cannot produce the proper identification.

The warning comes after a domestic worker was robbed in Oslo Beach by five men who claimed they worked for Eskom.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenent-Colonel Zandra Wiid said these people should not be allowed onto anyone’s premises.

“On Monday, the owner of a residence in Norvik Road, Oslo Beach, left his house before midday. The domestic worker was alone at the house at the time,” said Wiid.

About 15 minutes later when he returned, he found a traumatised domestic worker, who told him that a house robbery had just taken place.

“According to her, five unknown males, all dressed in blue overalls with ‘Eskom’ printed on them, hooted at the gate and asked her to open,” said Wiid.

The men told her they wished to check the meter, but when she opened the gate, they forced her back into the house and threatened to kill her if she screamed.

“They ransacked the house and fled with three televisions, four laptops, an iPad, cellphones and clothing,” she said.

One of suspects is big built, the others are of average size.

Anyone with information is requested to contact their nearest police station. A house robbery case is being investigated.
