SAPS work to eradicate local drug trade

2018-11-22 06:02

As part of an ongoing operation to eradicate drug local trade, five suspects were arrested in Port Shepstone and Scottburgh last week.

The suspects were aged between 23 and 61 and were arrested after they were found with a total of 1575 capsules of heroin with an estimated street value of R50 000. The suspects appeared in the Port Shepstone and Scottburgh Magistrate courts.

One of the suspects, a 61-year-old man, was found in possession of 800 heroin capsules. His case was postponed to November 16 and he remains in police custody.

In the Port Shepstone case, the four males who were arrested appeared in court on November 8. Two were granted bail and will make another appearance early next year. The other two remain in police custody and will make their court appearances on November 16 and 20.

“Such operations are continuing throughout the province and drug dealers should be aware that they will face the same fate soon as festive season operations have been stepped up,” warned Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
