Serial rapist receives heavy sentence

2017-09-21 06:01

A RAPE and murder investigation which started in 2011 and ended in the Pietermaritzburg High Court resulted in Sibusiso Mpisane being found guilty on five counts of rape and one of murder on Monday.

He was given three life sentences and a further 50 years.

The crimes were committed in Marburg, Louisiana and KwaNzimakwe from 2011 to 2015.

Four of the victims were minors aged 14 and younger, and one of them was murdered.

When the investigating officer Warrant Officer Mfanafuthi Ngubane received DNA results from the five cases, he established that he was looking for the same rapist as all the results were linked to one suspect.

After Mpisane was arrested he confessed to some of the crimes.

The matter was first heard at the Ramsgate High Court, but was later moved to Pietermaritzburg.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane welcomed the sentences.
