Serious changes are needed before our country improves

2018-09-27 06:01

Although the ANC assumed governance of South Africa more than 20 years ago, all malfunctions are being attributed to the Apartheid Era. Only a very young child lacks reasoning, accountability and responsibility. The whites are denounced, deplored, accused, heavily fined/imprisoned and extorted for racism — yet chanting, “kill the boer” is permissible. They are even accused of stealing their purchased farms.

Since the Apartheid rule, the infrastructures and extra-structures (e.g.buildings/roads,bridges) have become destabilised. Even the sea/rivers/dams are now polluted with a dangerously high E-coli level. The Vaal, the source of drinking water, is contaminated. Swimming in and drinking polluted water results in intestinal problems and even death.

Owing to a dearth of funds, the people can neither buy land nor houses, because the powers that be, the ANC government, cannot provide employment.

The economy has been wrecked and the Rand worthless by the actions of the immature public, of rioting/crippling strikes, torching clinics/hospitals/schools/universities, private property and the escalation of violent and serious crimes, with kidnapping on the increase. No longer are schools safe havens for staff and pupils. According to the international media, South Africa is the world’s murder capital. I would change the description to the “torture capital”. (As a volunteer police reservist, I witnessed the results of atrocious attacks. I regret that I insisted viewing the post-mortem report of my 83-year-old mother’s brutal murder. All her bones were fractured and her skin a mass of abrasions and bruises!)

Consequently, how can anyone envisage international investment in a crime-ridden and bankrupted, non-functioning country!

Electricity tariffs are exorbitant and water invoices unrealistic. Many elderly people, on static pensions, have switched off their geysers. An immersion heater is used to heat water in a bucket to wash in a shallow bath. Another economic practice is to eat only one meal per day. A minister advised critics of the country to leave. No country will be willing to accept the aged, especially with a lack of finance.

May the ANC grant Malema and his followers a large tract of arable land and equipment for farming, as well as housing. Would the members of this party work the land or remain on the streets creating havoc and destruction?

Yours faithfully

DR L.J. PELTZ
