A HEAP of rubbish is being dumped on the corner of Aster and Strelitzia roads in Shelly Beach every week and residents say it not only poses health concerns, but also security concerns as the dumped goods are attracting vagrants.

The dumping is alleged to be from a nearby complex, which houses 200 households. The estate reportedly does not have a designated collection point where the municipality collects waste weekly and as a result the tenants waste is dumped on the street corner.

A concerned resident, who asked not to be named, said he feared for his family’s safety.

“A huge load of household waste is dumped here weekly and the vagrants have started to notice and flock to the area. This is getting out of hand, the municipality must do something about it. Why can’t they organise a collection point for those people [from the complex],” said the resident.
