SLIMY water with an unbearable stench is a great concern for the residents of Mamkobosi Road in Gamalakhe.

Residents say that the problem has been persistent for over two years now.

One resident, Nomkhosi Shibase said that she reported the matter to the Ugu District Municipality countless times, however, when the technicians were sent out they fixed a manhole in her neighbour’s yard but left the main problem of the water coming from a small break on the road, unattended.

Shibase said that the water is now causing potholes on the road and to top it all, there is a slimy residue on the road surface. “The slime on the road is very dangerous, especially because we have children who play on the road. Some of the children are small and do not wear shoes, they may slip and fall or sometimes touch the water. This makes them sick,” said Shibase.

Shibase said the next thing that might happen is that the road will collapse and become a sink hole if the problem is not fixed. The Fever visited the area and found that some of the slimy water washes into an open manhole at the end of the road.

Ugu spokesperson France Zama said technicians are investigating the problem.
