FOUR South Coast artists will feature at this year’s Decorex international trade show in Durban.

The show travels the country highlighting top designers, design trends, artists, art, lifestyle and food.

Freshly back from a six-month stint in Germany, painters Everett and Frances Schandera-Duarte will make up two of the chosen group.

Izidro Duarte will join them alongside well known bronze sculptor Marke Meyer. Duarte will be exhibiting a collection of bronzes and a paintings.

Frances will be exhibiting her new “flower” series.

Everett is a contemporary artist whose abstract paintings celebrate colour, life and spirit. His canvases have been described as bursting, flowing, decomposing and re-emerging into forms.

Everett and Frances will also be exhibiting a collection of Mpenja paintings. This is an intriguing double act – a coming together of their two minds into African inspired, mixed media paintings.

A combination of serigraphy, layered oil paint and a love of this continent are deeply embedded in all of these once-off pieces.

Meyer says he is essentially a poet, but having abandoned the pen and paper in exchange for space itself, he now uses sculpture to create his own unique visual poetry in bronze.

Possibly best known for his suspended female figures, Meyer’s ‘floating’ pieces appear to defy gravity and contradict the heaviness and permanence of the bronze medium.

Decorex will be at the Durban Exhibition Centre, from Friday, 18 March up to, and including, Monday, 21 March. The artists will be in attendance at stand AP1. - Supplied.
