THE South Coast Home Coming Picnic event was launched at The View restaurant in Uvongo last Friday.

The event was organised by Fam-Fest Entertainment in partnership with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

Organiser from Fam-Fest Thabani Mzindle said the main purpose of the event is to give upcoming local artists a chance to showcase their talent. It also aims to encourage young people and women entrepreneurs to demonstrate their skills and businesses in the form of exhibitions, promote local businesses by giving them a chance to sell their products at the venue, add value to local economic development by using only local-based companies for infrastructure, and to have a fun-filled family event.

The picnic will also give certain government departments a platform to address some of society’s issues such as drug abuse, drinking and driving, and practicing safe sex during the festive season.

Guests included the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA), Department of Arts and Culture, local media, Ugu Youth Radio, Radio Sunny South, 1KZN TV, as well as social media developers.

“There will be upcoming activation events which will be a build-up to the main event,” said Mzindle, who has happy with the success of the launch.
