SPCA water issue resolved

WITH a number of complaints about water cuts in various areas on the South Coast, people have been using a Facebook page - Ugu Complaints - to address water issues.

Last Thursday SPCA manager Michael Muller posted that since Monday the animal shelter has had no water. In the post Muller said he has asked for a water tanker, but not one was sent out by the municipality.

The issue, however, was only resolved last Friday morning, said Muller.

“The society [SPCA] had been without water since Monday. We were receiving different reports regarding the problem, from pipes that need to be repaired to the reservoir’s water level being too low.

“One of the big problems, however, was the issue of hygiene, but fortunately this time there were no serious issues of sickness,” said Muller.

He said the municipality attended to the matter on Friday morning and said there was a blockage in the water meter.

He said their major problem was cleaning the kennels, which is extremely important as it is very easy for bacteria to spread from one dog to another if hygiene levels are dropped.

Muller said for drinking water they had to cart water from a staff member’s house and more from sponsors for the duration of that week, however, things have returned to normal.
