St Martins pupils get swimming training

ST Martins De Porres School, in partnership with Margate Swimming Club, held a training gala on Friday where Grade 1 to Grade 4 pupils participated in various swimming styles.

Swimming coach Claire Banwell trains pupils twice a week where strong swimmers, who can be developed, are identified.

Banwell said 12 pupils will be selected to get further training at South City School’s heated pool in winter.

“Teaching these special children how to swim is important because every­ child deserves to learn. The idea is to teach them from a young age so they get used to it and those with talent are identified,” she said.

After the gala pupils received medals from the club and an Easter egg.
