AS part of the stakeholders’ engagement programme, the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality hosted a platform to engage business on its supply chain management policy and its implementation.

Even though the turnout was not what the municipality had expected, local businesses and other stakeholders were in attendance.

The aim of the engagement was to create an environment of transparency and accountability, while at the same time allow for the exchange of valuable information with current and potential suppliers.

According to municipal manager Max Mbili, the engagement was in response to the pressure group that had recently demanded tenders from the municipality, and it was also to help local businesses understand new procurement policies that are favourable to local businesses.

Important information related to the soliciting of tenders and mini-tenders was also tabled, including the amendments which have been made to supply management policies in order to create an enabling environment for set- asides for targeted groups.

Local businesses were also informed that they could be awarded tenders even if they have outstanding balances to pay to the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

Mbili emphasised that the session was of benefit to both suppliers and the municipality. “We believe that the information shared with suppliers will not only capacitate them in terms of understanding our processes and procedures, but will add value to our economic outlook as a municipality,” he said.
