ON Saturday shihans and senseis affiliated to the World Karate Federation (WKF) Ugu Karate Region, Karate KwaZulu- Natal and Karate South Afrika (KSA) held a tournament at Creston College.

The tournament was held to select participants for the WKF Ugu team Brown and Black Belt Elite Championships 2017 for Ugu colours as well as trials for Karate KwaZulu-Natal colours. More than 100 karateka, ranging in age from five to veteran, participated in kata, kumite and unison.

Sensei Frank Moodley said it is pleasing to see the standard of karate in the area improving and dojos from Scottburgh to Margate working together.

“Our thanks go to Sensei Rodney Govender and Sensei Danric Vester, who were chief referee and centre referee respectively, who came down from Durban to impart their knowledge of the sport,” said Moodley.

The WKF Ugu karateka are now working hard in preparation for the 2016 Salga games.
