AN alleged car thief was stopped in his tracks by police after in Oslo Beach on Friday after he tried to steal a woman’s car.

The 36-year-old complainant saw her car being reversed out of a parking at her place of work.

“She immediately screamed for the security guard to close the gate, but it was too late,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

A report was made to local police and soon a lookout for the car was circulated.

Soon afterwards police members at Paddock saw the vehicle approaching on the main Harding road. The driver made a U-turn and tried escape, but police were closed in.
“He then brought the car to a standstill, jumped out and fled into a thick bush,” said Wiid.

A search for the man was conducted, but without success. The car was impounded for the necessary investigation to be done.

In another unrelated case, a suspected car thief will appear in Ramsgate Court today after he was apprehended by Margate police on Thursday.

Margate detectives received information about a person in possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle at about 6pm. They proceeded to the address disclosed by the informant in Margate Extension 3 and spotted the vehicle outside on the premises.

After carefully approaching the house and questioning the 39-year-old man regarding ownership of a white VW Amarok, it was established that the vehicle was stolen.

During questioning at the man’s premises, he told police that he owned the vehicle, but was waiting proof of ownership documents as he was still paying for it.

“Investigation revealed that the vehicle was indeed stolen in Umlazi, Durban in October 2014,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka.

Detective Warrant Officer Michael Welsh, Sergeant Michelle van Niekerk and Sergeant Charmaine Muller arrested the man.
