THINGS were lively at Umtentweni at the weekend with the second Tweni2’s surfing competition taking place.

The Freedom Day event incorporated a new category for under 18s and under 14s and with R10 000 prize money at stake; competition was intense.

Tide-Lee Ireland took first place in the U18 boys category and Jesse Powell won the U18 girls competition as well as the Wave of the Day. Gabby Herbst and Joshua
Jeffries won the U14 competitions.

Tide-Lee and his partner Karl Steen as winners and runners up in the under 18 category were given a chance to compete against the big boys in the senior competition on Saturday. They managed to get to the final only to be beaten by Chad Du Toit and Beyrick De Vries partnership, who scooped a massive R20 000 prize as winners.

With the total prize money being R45 000, the
