Thank you, from wild life centre

2016-06-09 06:00

WITH the recent closure of Crag’s View Wild Care Centre, I, in my capacity as an animal rehabilitator, would like to thank the people behind the scenes, who assisted in ways many people are unaware of.

The vets Dr Leon Bruggeman and Dr Sylvi Weiss of Margate Veterinary Hospital, Dr Hugo Voigt and Dr Claire Norten of Port Shepstone Veterinary Hospital, Dr Renier Delport of Port Shepstone Vet, Dr Michelle Beukmann, the mobile vet at Glenmore and Dr Dave Watson of Port Edward Vet - thank you for your time, for always being prepared to help any animal, for the advice, all of which was pro bono - your actions gave these orphans a chance at life in the wild.

Liz Highcock - for her dedication to the centre for the past nine years. Liz, who is in her eighties, travelled from Shelly Beach to Port Edward twice a week to cut up vegetables and handled all the administration and finances.

When donations weren’t forthcoming she funded the food bills from her own pocket and even settled our annual audit bill without hesitation. Her unwavering love and loyalty to the centre and animals is admirable.

Mike van Rensburg, our neighbouring farmer, who, for many years, donated bananas to the centre each week. Thank you, your contribution helped feed many animals.

Lynn Milton, who shared her knowledge and offered advice when I had no one to help me. Thank you for always being available to listen and share your trade secrets.

Sharlene, for standing in for me when I was exhausted, after being on duty from 4.45am until 1am the following morning, for months on end.

To the individual and/or private donors and businesses who financially supported the centre for many years, your donations helped many orphaned and sick animals who would not have a chance were it not for your kindness.

To Michelle Pearson of Second Chance Avian Rescue (Scar) Shelly Beach, thank you for all your help with the birds.

Lastly, I would like to appeal to the public to support Michelle at Scar on 083 246 6765, she needs all the help she can get or she’ll end up closing like CVWCC.
