Three die in truck crash

2018-03-15 06:00

THE N2 highway between Port Shepstone and Harding was closed due to a major accident between two trucks on Tuesday morning.

Three men who were occupants of one truck died and the male occupant of the other truck was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Spokesperson for the KZN Emergency Medical Services, Robert Mckenzie, said the highway was closed on both sides due to the severity of the accident and debris was strewn on the road.

“The road remains closed due to the wreckage of the trucks and police are investigating further,” said Mckenzie.

“The smaller truck had a trailer and had a cargo of mattresses.

The visibility was very poor due to dense fog,” he said.

A culpable homicide docket will be investigated,” said Port Shepstone SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Zandra Wiid.

Traffic was redirected to alternate routes via Hibberdene and Port Edward for the rest of the day.
