Title deed transfers begin

2016-08-25 06:00

THE transfer verification process of the Marburg pensioners’ flats is well under way. A total of 41 titles deeds will be handed over to those who qualify for them. The other 27 flats are being occupied illegally.

“Our estate administration section is processing the issue of title deeds for the qualifying tenants,” said Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesperson, Simon April.

He could not say when the process will be complete.

“It should be noted that this is not an overnight process and therefore will unavoidably take some time.”

Only indigent residents will be given title deeds, however, those who are not will be given first preference to buy the flat they are occupying before it is put to anyone else to buy.

For this the municipality has rolled out a screening process to see who qualifies.

“Coupled with that process [title deed transfers] is the verification of the occupants of those flats to see whether they are the rightful occupants of them,” said April.

At a media briefing this year municipal manager, Max Mbili, said the eviction process was not easy and the correct steps have to be taken, according to the Constitution.
