The Ugu acting cluster commander, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya, recently presented certificates from the National Commissioner to Umzinto detectives for good work.

One of their achievements was that two suspects in a murder and kidnapping case were arrested and sentenced to three terms of life imprisonment and 35 years for charges of murder, kidnapping, theft and assault.

In another case, Umzinto resident Nawaaz Khan was reported missing in November 2015 and was later found by police, buried in a sugarcane field. Investigations revealed that another person was also found murdered and buried. Both their heads had been removed.

The trial was heard in the Pietermaritzburg high court and an outstanding conviction was handed down to the accused.

Brigadier Sibiya commended the team for the thorough investigation, professionalism and dedication which resulted in the criminals receiving harsh sentences.
