THE Umbango River Conservancy (URC) launched its Tandele Trail Run and Hike on Sunday.

Locals, from children to adults came in numbers to support the initiative.

“Over 200 participants, whose collective prayers ensured they were blessed with perfect weather, couldn’t wait to be on their way,’ said Morgan Naidoo of the URC.

The 10km trail starts in the Band Farm area, just outside Marburg, so it was fitting that Ravi Pillay, MEC for Human Settlements, opened the event as he hails from the area.

Raj Naganna, a local athlete, designed the trail which commences and ends at the Illovo Sugarmill car park.

It continues up the Umzimkhulu River and then to the Ugu pump house.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors, especially Vodacom. Many local business houses contributed to the success of this event,” said Naidoo.
