Tuck-shop robber and murderer sentenced to 20 years

ONE of the three suspects who robbed and murdered Thandabantu tuck shop employee was sentenced to a total­ of 32 years’ imprisonment in the Port Shepstone Regional Court last Tuesday.

Police spokes person Leiutenant Colonel Zandra Wiid said Trueman Mvazana was one of the men who robbed a Mkhiolombe tuck shop in January.

Detective Warrant officer Lami Mjweni, who worked on the case, ensured that justice was served.

“On 25 January at 9pm, three unknown men stormed the shop and opened fire.

The three suspects shot the tuck shop employee and fled with cash, various airtime vouchers and cigarettes.

The following day, Trueman Mvazana­ (30) was arrested after police­ acted on information received.

Wiid said Mvazana was formally charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances, and murder.

“Exhibits found positively linked Mvazana to this crime,” said Wiid.

Wiid said Mvazana was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances and a further 20 years for murder.

She said the polices are still working tirelessly, continuing with investigations to find the outstanding two suspects.
