Two killed in accident on Marine Drive

TWO people were killed after allegedly being involved in a hit and run collision with a motorbike in Uvongo recently.

Margate SAPS spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Margate Police Station received a report of an accident that had occurred near the Bird Park in Uvongo along Marine Drive.

Upon their arrival, police noticed that two people were lying in the middle of the road. It is reported that one of the victims died on the scene.

During the investigation, an 86-year old-male reported to police that he was the driver of the motor vehicle with a local registration number, which had collided with the motorbike.

He alleged that the motorbike was travelling at a high speed.

The victims were identified as William Jacobul Grobler (48) and his son Nicolaas Grobler (26) from Garden Avenue,Uvongo. The bodies were taken to the Port Shepstone government mortuary and the police opened a case of culpable homicide case for investigation.

Margate detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Andre Booysen, on 039 312 9822/ 074 448 6872.
