Two life sentences and 45 years’ for murderer, rapist

SANDILE Lellewyn Dlamini (35) was sentenced to two life sentences and an additional 45 years’ imprisonment by Ramsgate High Court for the murder of his friend Mbongeni Ntombela, rape and other cases which he committed last year in Ezinqoleni and Verulam.

On the night of his friend’s murder, Dlamini and Ntombela and Ntombela’s girlfriend, were having drinks at a house in Shobashobane. At around 10:30pm Ntombela and his girlfriend went to sleep, however, later the girlfriend woke up and discovered Ntombela covered in blood on the floor and the accused was standing next to him with a knife.

Ntombela had sustained multiple stab wounds. When the girlfriend asked the accused what happened, he stabbed her twice and told her to help him to put the body on the bed, which she refused.

However, he threatened her again and she assisted him. He then allegedly took matches and instructed her to set the bed alight, and out of fear, she complied.

The accused then dragged the girlfriend outside the burning room. He stabbed her several times and raped her. He then left her in a stream and she pretended to be dead. When she thought it was safe, she crawled to a nearby house for help.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the matter was reported to Ezinqoleni police.

“The accused fled the area to Verulam, where at a later stage, he committed a house robbery. In the meantime, a warrant of arrest was issued for crimes committed in Ezinqoleni,” said Wiid.

Wiid said on 5 May he was arrested by Verulam police and the warrant of arrest was also executed.

“The accused made several court appearances and was found guilty and sentenced on 3 June as follows, life sentence for murder, 15 years for robbery aggravated, 10 years for arson, five years for kidnappings, 10 years attempted murder, life sentence for rape, 10 years for attempted murder in a Verulam case, and an additional 15 years for robbery aggravated also in Verulam,” said Wiid.

Detective Warrant Officer Goodwill Mavundla from Ezinqoleni SAPS investigated the case and brought the perpetrator to book.
