Ugu apologises for error

UGU District Municipality has issued an apology after incorrect water statements were mailed to customers last month.

Ugu municipal manager DD Naidoo said after this, the municipal call centre received many complaints about account names not matching billing details.

He attributed the error to a contracted printing company which he says mixed up the data.

“The billing system has the correct information and the batch that has an error is for January. Affected customers are those residing mainly in Shelly Beach, Uvongo Margate, Ramsgate, Southbroom, Trafalgar, San Lameer and Park Rynie,” said Naidoo.

He said the error occurred on the statements that get posted out, not emailed ones. “These will be reprinted and all bills will be corrected accordingly.

The error is regretted and Ugu sincerely apologises to all its affected customers for the inconvenience caused,” he said.

Meanwhile, residents have been asked to store water in anticipation of planned water shutdowns scheduled to take place on 21 and 28 February. This is due to the construction of a pipeline to the Bhobhoyi water treatment plant.

Affected areas are from Hibberdene to Ramsgate and inland Gamalakhe, Murchison, Bhobhoyi and Nyandezulu. Water will be off from 7am until 3pm on both days.
