Ugu billing system still ‘flawed’

2018-02-01 06:01

AROUND the same time last year many residents were angry after receiving their December bills, claiming Ugu’s billing system was flawed. A year later the municipality is now initiating a new billing system.

A notice has been sent out by Zimbini Mpurwana saying the municipality is still experiencing some challenges with a new billing system.

“Like all new systems, there are several teething challenges being experienced.

Mpurwana said account holders should be aware that January water statements may be delayed and the municipality requested that an effort is made to pay accounts on the average monthly consumption, even if no bill has been received.

“New applicants and those wanting to change ownership are requested to visit Ugu offices and complete the necessary forms.

“Paper work will not be processed right away, the actual disconnection or connection will be done for you, and later you will be contacted to pay the deposit once your account has been opened.”

Mpurwana said the municipality will not be able to process refunds at this stage, however, as soon as the system is sorted out, payments will be done.

“We apologise to those waiting for their refunds. Our cash offices are currently not able to issue receipts and account holders must use Easypay outlets, Internet banking or over-the-counter and keep their receipt.

“A special unit will be set up to deal with any queries arising for this exercise. When asking questions or seeking assistance, provide your account details and the team will gladly assist. A weekly update will be given regarding the billing system.”
