Ugu District hosts ECD summit

2018-03-29 06:01

UGU District Municipality will play host to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Summit organised by the National Development Agency (NDA).

The two-day event will be held at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre from today (Thursday) and will end tomorrow.

The summit will be held under the theme “Good Governance for Improved ECD Services and Sustainability.”

The summit will be attended by government structures of ECDs including forums, special programmes units from municipalities, government officials directly responsible for ECDs and business structures.

According to the NDA, the main objective of the summit is to promote good governance as an integral part of running an ECD.

This follows a call by the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa that government intends to strengthen the ECD sector to improve education and break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.

Today, the summit will start with a plenary which will culminate into break-away sessions later on the day.

Four thematic areas will be discussed and wrapped up the following day at the plenary.

Political leadership from Ugu district, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for the Department of Social Development Weziwe Thusi and NDA CEO Thamo Mzobe are among the invited guests.
