TOLOMANE Mnyayiza was elected Ugu District Municipality mayor at the inaugural council meeting on Wednesday at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.

Deputy mayor is Mondli Chiliza and speaker is Ntombifikile Gumede, who served as mayor prior to this.

A total of 35 councillors were also sworn in.

Guests, traditional leaders and political party members attended.

The new council comprises 23 ANC councillors, six IFP, five DA and one AIC.

The executive committee is made up of councillors from the ANC, IFP and DA.

The ANC won five seats and the IFP and DA one seat each.
