Ugu earns unqualified audit - AG

2015-12-03 06:00

THE Ugu District Municipality has received an unqualified audit finding for the 2014/15 financial year.

An unqualified audit outcome means that the Auditor- General is satisfied that the municipality’s financial records and statements are fairly and appropriately presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Municipal spokesperson France Zama said this a good outcome.

“This good audit outcome is attributed to a combination of various factors - sound financial management, leadership, strong political will and transparent administration of the municipality.

Zama said this will also serve as a positive barometer for the municipality in measuring its progress towards Operation 2015/16 Clean Audit.

Two municipal entities - Ugu South Coast Tourism and Ugu Development Agency - also received a clean and unqualified audit opinion respectively.

Zama said this served as another feather in the cap of the Ugu District Municipality.

Ugu Mayor Ntombifikile Gumede attributed the audit outcome of both municipalities and its two entities to prudent compliance with the financial and audit management systems and processes.

“As leadership of the municipality, we have strengthened our oversight controls and have taken a zero tolerance [agreement] to non-compliance.

“Our objective is to ensure that the audit outcome is strongly connected with our commitment of accelerated and tangible service delivery to our communities,” said Gumede.

She said having achieved this improved audit outcome, the next step will be to ensure that the municipality works towards achieving a clean audit.
