Ugu festive plans announced

AT a recent meeting with councillors­ and ratepayers in the Ugu Disaster Management boardroom the Ugu District Municipality said its festive plans are all in order.

Municipal department managers did presentations, giving stakeholders the chance to ask questions.

Ugu IED Environmental Health Services manager said with regards to communicable disease control, the municipality will insure that ablution facilities in public areas are inspected regularly, especially at taxi ranks and beaches.

He said sewage discharge from conservancy tanks, septic tanks and in hot spots such as Margate, Ramsgate, Uvongo, Shelly Beach, will be monitored every second day to ensure compliance.

“In the event of any communicable diseases notification, Environmental Health will respond immediately and investigate and take remedial action.

“Drinking water samples will be taken from health facilities and public institutions to ensure that the water is safe to drink and is in compliance with the SANS14 of 2015.”

He said officers and two Environmental Health Practitioners (EPH) will be on standby on weekends and public holidays.

For Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and Umdoni, the same will apply and in Harding, one officer and a EPH will be available.

Ugu communications and customer relations department said regarding water problems it is important that affected parties give full and accurate information on any service interruption over the festive season.

Councillors will be informed via WhatsApp and the municipalities Facebook page.

Adverts will also be placed in the media.

With regards to the customer relations, the Human Resource Department will have 11 to 15 operators working on weekdays.

Four to six operators will work after hours and on public holidays.

The call centre will also have the same number of operators.
