Ugu mayor recaps on Ugu development goals

2016-11-10 06:00

OVER and above the ongoing efforts to improve water and sanitation infrastructure, the eradication of poverty and unemployment in the district is an equal priority.

This was shared by the Ugu District Mayor, Cllr Tolomane Mnyayiza at KwaLatshoda Community Hall at a sitting of the Mayoral Izimbizo on Tuesday.

Mnyayiza highlighted that in 2012, Ugu District Municipality developed the Ugu Growth and Development Strategy (GDS), which aims to create a district that leads in tourism, agriculture and manufacturing, one that will be the driver of job creation thus ensuring that previously marginalised communities benefit.

We have pursued numerous economy drivers to channel business growth opportunities to the South Coast, which will in turn enhance tourism and enable the district to achieve the set growth and development goals where everyone benefits from socioeconomic opportunities and services.

Our district has significant economic development potential that can have a positive impact on the lives of our communities. It is therefore the onus of our government to ensure collaboration with relevant stakeholders for this vision to materialise.

Our responsibility as government is to ensure we change the lives of our communities for the better and we are responsible to ensure that our communities are provided with the basic needs of water and sanitation and are exposed to opportunities that will assist in the fight against unemployment and poverty.

Ugu District Municipality promotes working together to create an environment that is friendly, responsive, accountable, effective, and efficient for our communities.

Ugu District is better today than it was yesterday.
