THE annual Ugu District Municipality’s Mayoral Imbizo began this week at the Umzumbe Municipality’s Nkanini Sports Ground.

The programme will visit all three municipality under Ugu to open dialogue between the municipality and the communities.

Municipal spokesperson France Zama said the programme was a “legislative requirement” for local governance to give communities the “opportunity to engage municipal leadership on its service delivery functions and be part of the decision-making processes of community development”.

“Political and administration leadership of municipalities [will] visit communities both in the rural and urban areas of the district to interact with communities on their service delivery needs to be considered for the new fiscal year,” said Zama.

“This platform is also utilised by government to weigh ourselves on the effectiveness of our service to the community,” said Zama.

The izimbizo will reach Ray Nkonyeni Municipality on November 2.
