A PHOTOGRAPH of two young boys fixing potholes with cement has been well received on Facebook after it was posted by a motorist who took it after being impressed with what they were doing.

Using their own initiative, Creston College pupils, Michael and Matthew Dalton of Dennis Circle in Umtentweni mixed cement and got down to work, filling bad potholes on their street.

At the time of going to press, the photo had received 170 comments and over 1 400 reactions.

Those who commented said how impressed they were that the boys were showing adults how it is done.

Speaking to the Fever, their mother Beverly
said she was unaware of what they were planning to do.

“They just got some cement we had in the garage and started working,” she said.

Many South Coast residents constantly voice their dissatisfaction at the bad state of the roads.

In a landmark ruling that set a precedence last month, the Eastern Cape High Court ordered the roads department to reimburse private citizens who carry out maintenance of their roads themselves.

This is subject to certain conditions, including giving the department 30 days notice of the repairs and obtaining at least two independent quotes.
