Umzumbe bomb to be sent for forensic testing

2015-11-11 06:00

A BOMB that was found in Umzumbe on municipal premises last Wednesday is to be sent for forensic testing.

Police spokesperson Colonel Lieutenant Zandra Wiid said the bomb is believed to be a home-made petrol bomb and no arrests have been made so far.

Its alleged that when the bomb was discovered, a group of ANC members were protesting outside the municipality burning tyres.

Its also alleged that the unrest at the Umzumbe Municipality is linked to disputes involving Inkosi Bhekizizwe Luthuli.

The Fever asked Luthuli for comment saying the unrest and the bomb could be linked to him.

An angry Luthuli said he has nothing to do with the planting of the bomb.

“How could I be involved in planting the bomb. I was not even at the scene when it was discovered. It is the ANC that was marching outside the municipality that day and they should answer about who planted it,” said Luthuli.

He said ANC members arrived at the municipality in the early hours of the morning so they should know how that bomb was placed on municipality premises.

Luthuli alleged that the ANC is using him as a scapegoat.

“They are using me as a scapegoat, they are planting bombs for each other,” said Luthuli.

Municipal spokesperson Trevor Khanyile said the municipality applauds the police for finding the bomb in time.

“The municipality is a public area and if a bomb is placed there it is a danger. We applaud the police for finding it before it caused harm.”

Khanyile said municipal offices were closed that day because of the march and no staff were on the premises.

He said they are very alarmed by the incident and hope the police get to the bottom of it.

“We are waiting for the police investigation to tell us who is responsible for placing the bomb,” said Khanyile.
