MANABA residents have raised concerns over accidents caused by a hole on their road which they say was left by Ugu District Municipality after fixing a burst water pipe last month.

Koot Koekemoer, who lives at the Lomati Flats on Marine Drive close to the street, said he has tried
numerous times to get the
municipality to cover the hole, however, his complaints have been ignored.

“We have had two accidents already and no one seems interested in this.

“I mean, do they want people to die before they do something about it.”

Koekemoer said Ugu did the pipe fixture last month.

“They came to fix a burst water pipe and when they were done they just covered with a pile of bricks,” he said.

A shop owner in the area said the hole was a concern because it was on a very busy intersection.

“Marine Drive is the main road in Margate, lots of cars pass here and many are not aware of it and that is what causes accidents.”

Fever asked the municipality for comment, but at the time of going to press none had been received.
