MPUMELELO Qwathekana, who is affectionately known as Rawnik Flores among his peers and fans in the music industry, has aspirations of putting the Wild Coast music scene on the map with his impressive body of work.

A hard worker and a perfectionist by nature, Rawnik is a self-taught music producer who specialises in, but is not limited to, house music and has captivated the crowds with his work that he performs with a live band at events.

His focus and work ethic has been evident in the past years when a song he produced in 2014, titled Inception, caught the attention of Dj Mzi who was then signed under Dj Cleo. Mzi was so impressed by the young producer’s work that he released the song which got play-listed on Igagasi FM. Two months later, Rawnik released Journey Ahead (guitar song) with Dj V from Zimbabwe, collaborated with Sylent Nqo also known as Guitar Sangoma. With the song gaining enormous attention, Mpumelelo was invited for an interview on Producers Corner, a show presented by Radio Dj, King Sifiso.

“If your vision is to be the best, then whatever you do has to be natured with love, patience and passion” said the young producer as he explained that from there he had to take things slow with his music career as he was still studying towards his HR qualification at Durban University of Technology. He has since released a song featuring Maskandi artist Thole, titled Ntombente, on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Spotify.

He plans to release a follow up single titled Jika featuring Themba Ncama, a seasoned musician and song writer with an array of credits which include writing the popular hit song Izizwe/Babomnane for the late music legend, Busi Mhlongo. The single will set the groundwork for his upcoming project that is set be released on iTunes early 2019.

“I have always been attracted to music by its power to unite people of different backgrounds and different cultures. It’s quiet intriguing how a group of notes or a tone is able to provoke certain emotions in people. At any given time, I am able to make people yearn for love, or to make them dance and rejoice, to me that is amazing” Rawnik said.

He also stated that his yet to be named project is set to be one of the best projects to be released in 2019.
