THE community of Shobeni gathered together more than a thousand young people and the elderly at the Shobeni Sport Field for an outreach programme recently.

Attendants were all given a range of household essentials including five-litre bottles of water, blankets, hygiene packs, soups, soccer kits and soccer balls.

The event was spearheaded by Nkosinathi Mcabangelwa Cele, and his wife, who invited local Oribi and Paddock farmers, businesses, Multiwood, Dumakude Hardware, Dr. I Engar, as well as the Shoprite Soup Kitchen, in conjunction with The Gift of The Givers, to support the initiative.

Co-ordinator for the Gift of the Givers South Coast Imraan Mahomed and his team said they decided to participate in the initiative because they are dedicated to the upliftment of the rural communities of the Ugu District. “A sterling job was also done by SAPS Paddock. All the organisations involved jointly made the event successful and enjoyable for all,” said Mohamed.
