Uvongo crime report: house break-ins increase

2016-09-15 06:00

HOUSE break-ins increased in Uvongo in August the area’s crime and safety forum reported at it’s monthly meeting recently.

“During the month of August we have seen the opposite happening compared to July,” said chairman, Ernest Booysen.

In July, 17 house-breakings were reported.

Up until 26 August only 14 incidents had occurred. However, this quickly changed when six more house-breakings took place in the last few days of the month.

“During the last five days of the month six more incidents occurred. The hot-spot area for the month was sector one, sea side of Marine Drive and north of Uvongo River.”

About 57% of the incidents happened in sector one, followed by sector two - inland of Marine Drive and north of the river - with 24%.

Sector three - inland of Marine Drive and south of the river - attributed to 14% of house break-ins and sector four (sea side of Marine Drive and south of the river) with only one housebreak incident reported.

There were seven incidents between 6pm and midnight, five between midnight and 6am, five between 6am and midday and four from midday to 6pm.

Housebreakings occurred on all days of the week except for Mondays.
