Warning against fraudulent SAPS recruiters

2017-11-09 06:00

THE Port Shepstone SAPS issued a warning to the applicants of the police recruitment drive currently under way to be wary of fraudsters asking for money, claiming it is part of the application process.

Port Shepstone SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said payment requests claim to be for uniforms, equipment or entry fees.

“No monies are needed to be paid by applicants during the recruitment process. If we discover that members are requesting payments to be made to them in order to secure jobs for applicants, those members will be charged with corruption,” said Wiid, encouraging those affected to report the incident.

Wiid said the recruitment drive was advertised in local media and community forums in September and the process is almost finalised.

“Applicants must be between the ages 18 and 30 and have a matric certificate.

“It is also an advantage to have a driver’s licence,” said Wiid.

“They will undergo a psychometric test, be subjected to physical assessment after which interviews and shortlisting will be done, followed by ratification panels.

“Thereafter a medical assessment will follow, appointments done and applicants will be sent to colleges for training,” said Wiid.
