Water tanker stolen, and recovered

2016-10-27 06:00

A MUNICIPAL water tanker was hijacked last Thursday night in the Umzimkhulu area.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said two occupants of the water tanker - the driver and a passenger - were attacked by three armed men, who held them at gun point and instructed them to get off the tanker and lie on the ground.

“The suspects instructed the victims to lie on the ground, they tied them up with shoe laces, and then fled with the tanker.

On Friday 3am, Warrant Officer Gerhard Prinsloo from Port Shepstone Collision Unit was requested to assist with the tracking of the tanker.

“Prinsloo established that the tanker was approaching Port Shepstone, with the suspects driving to Bulwer Street where they drove into a wall,” said Wiid.

Members of the Port Shepstone CSC assisted Prinsloo and managed to arrest of one of the suspects, while the other two fled on foot.

“The arrested suspect was kept in police custody and charged for carjacking and being in possession of a stolen vehicle,” she said.

Wiid said no further arrests have been made, and investigations are continuing. - Supplied.
