PROPERTY is a big investment whether personal, business or municipal and in one way or another, contributes to the economy. In some municipalities a number of buildings, constructed years ago, have become white elephants.

At St Faiths Junction, under the Umzumbe Municipality, a multi-purpose community centre was built over 10 years ago, and has never been used, and the community is compelled to go to neighbouring areas for service.
In Bhobhoyi, just after Mkholombe, near Hlanganani Preparatory School there are rows of rooms allegedly belonging to the municipality that have been abandoned, but people are occupying them and come and go as they please.

Just above the building is another row of green rooms, also allegedly belonging to the former Hibiscus Coast Municipality, now Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

The municipality spokesperson, Simon April, said the building does not belong to the municipality so they cannot account for it - he said it could belong to the NPA.

Umzumbe Municipality was contacted about the multi-purpose community centre in St Faiths and the municipal spokesperson, Trevor Khanyile, said the building belongs to Ugu District Municipality and it was built on Umzumbe Municipality land.
