KWAXABA Youth Forum, Gamalakhe Ward 27, held a women’s empowerment summit at the Skhulu Ndlovu Community Hall.

Mdumiseni Cele, who serves on the youth forum, said the aim is to celebrate the role of women and remind people about the importance of education for sustained growth and development.

“We hosted the event to celebrate the role of women in society and encourage them to take the lead in business, sport, religion, politics and education, to name a few.”

The summit attracted more than 150 young women and parents.

“Speakers addressed guests from the Department of Health, the youth council, the ANC Youth League and community-based organisations,” he said.

The young women were inspired by a farmer - Mrs Mhlongo - who shared her success in agriculture and imparted knowledge on how to run a co-op.

A Department of Health representative spoke about breast cancer awareness, the importance of self-examination and early diagnosis. - Suppliedl
