THE NOMINEES for the Ugu Youth Awards were announced at a media briefing at the municipality on Tuesday.

Ugu Mayor Cllr Mondli Chiliza said the municipality received a lot of entries and their panel of experts selected the best candidates accordingly.

“Following the submission of nomination forms by the local municipality youth offices, a transparent screening process of all the nominees was conducted and concluded by an independent selection team,” said Chiliza.

He said the theme for this year’s awards was “Celebrating Positive Minds” and categories included sports, arts, economic development, agriculture, social development, Ugu, tourism ambassador, education and youth leadership.

Ugu budgeted R535 000 for the awards and the winners will receive R10 000 each.

Names on the nominations list were Sicelo Ndlovu, Thulisile Cebisa, Andiswa Ncayiyana from the Ray Nkonyeni Youth Office.

Zandile Buthelezi, Syabonga Mkhungo, Lungisani Khuzwayo, Pretty Ncayiyana, Sphesihle Cele, and Senzo Zondela were nominated in the Ray Nkonyeni arts category.

Nominees were informed by the municipality prior to the event, which takes place on Saturday June 10 at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.
