2015 marks the 39th anniversary of the 16 June Soweto riots and following the advent of democracy in 1994, the new democratic government declared 16 June as National Youth Day and June as Youth Month.

This week, the iLembe District Municipality joins the whole country in commemorations of this important day in our history.

The 2015 commemoration of National Youth Day is special in that it takes place exactly 21 years after we attained our freedom in 1994. It is also 60 years since the adoption of the Freedom Charter in Kliptown in 1955.

Based on 2011 census, the majority of the population at iLembe is the youth and as the District Municipality we have a number of programmes in place to educate and train our young people and support them in all that they venture in with the understanding that the future of this district, province and country rests with our young people.

On this page you will see two adverts inviting youth in business and unemployed graduates to register on our database. At iLembe District Municipality, we are convinced that young people will play a key role in transforming society. We believe that together we can ensure that young people share in our economic development and prosperity.
